Area D - September 2009 Update

If residents have construction related questions, concerns or issues contact Giffels-Webster, at 1-866-556-2200 (toll-free).

The Area D project will make central sewer available to approximately 1,485 homes. The project will be bid and constructed in phases.

Work continues on sod, driveways and roadway restoration in Phase 1.

The vacuum pump station equipment arrived in September, as well as the emergency backup generator. In October there will be a lot of activity at the station site on Goldenrod. The roof will be installed. Interior electrical work and plumbing will begin. Doors and window louvers should also be completed this month.

Phase 2 continues and work will be concentrated on Rose Street, Bougainvillea Street, Sunnyside Street and Grove Street near Tuttle Avenue. Work on the Webber Street Sidewalk Project is continuing on the north side with construction heading to the west.

The vacuum pump station is still on schedule for November completion. This must be finished in order to take the wastewater flows from homes and businesses. When service is ready for hookup, each property owner will be mailed information.

Door hangers will be distributed prior to work beginning on each street. All driveways and approaches will be restored to a useable condition at the end of each workday. Typically, the contractor's activities will restrict access to driveways for only a few hours.

No one can hook up until notification is mailed to property owners of record when construction is complete. After home owners receive that packet, each owner has 365 days to domolish the septic tank and hook up to central sewers.

Some residents, with septic system problems, are asking now if they should make repairs or just wait until central sewers are available.

The county will credit your utility account if you had septic system repairs or installed a new system that was permitted by the Health Department within the past 10 years. You will be required to provide the county with proof of payment for the work for installation and permits. The maximum credit is prorated based on when the repair or replacement was incurred and cannot exceed $1560. In no event shall the credit exceed the cost of the repair or replacement. This credit is not applied for septic system maintenance, such as a pump out.

  • Construction of the central sewer system will involve the installation of force main piping 6 to 10 inches in diameter and vacuum mains ranging in size from 4 to 10 inches in diameter. Typically, piping will be installed within county rights-of-way and easements from 3 to 12 feet beneath the roadway (or ground) surface.
  • Asphalt will be removed from a portion of the roadway and a dewatering system will be installed in most areas; the trench will be excavated and pipe placed in the trench; the trench will be backfilled and stabilized. Shallow service lines will be installed, and the roadway will be reconstructed upon completion of the installation of utility lines.
  • This construction will be disruptive. Your cooperation during construction is requested and will help expedite the completion of the project.
