Area D

The Area D project will make central sewer available to approximately 1,485 homes. The project will be bid and constructed in phases. The first phase is expected to begin in the fall of 2008.

The other phases will be constructed when the designs are complete. A small, northern portion of Area D has some franchise territory issues with the city of Sarasota. An inter-local agreement for proposed sewer service in this section will be drafted for the city's review once the design and estimated costs are determined.

It is expected that this area will be designed as a gravity system with collected flows pumped to either the future South Gate Master Pump Station or to the city of Sarasota, depending on the decisions in the city/county inter-local agreement. The remaining areas will be served by vacuum collection and flows directed to the future South Gate Master Pump Station.

The majority of this area is currently served by city water.
Description
This project includes design and construction of a central sewer system for approximately 1,485 property owners in the Phillippi Creek Septic System Replacement Program - Area D. The new system will require the installation of sewer piping along rights-of-way and construction of a collection/pumping station that will collect and transfer wastewater.

Service Area
Located north of Bee Ridge Road and west of Phillippi Creek.
Size of Area: Approx. 400 acres
Approx. Connections: 1,485
Type of System: Vacuum Sewer, Gravity Sewer
Construction
Date: 2008-2009
  • Construction of the central sewer system will involve the installation of force main piping 6 to 10 inches in diameter and vacuum mains ranging in size from 4 to 10 inches in diameter. Typically, piping will be installed within county rights-of-way and easements from 3 to 12 feet beneath the roadway (or ground) surface.
  • Asphalt will be removed from a portion of the roadway and a dewatering system will be installed in most areas; the trench will be excavated and pipe placed in the trench; the trench will be backfilled and stabilized. Shallow service lines will be installed, and the roadway will be reconstructed upon completion of the installation of utility lines.
  • This construction will be disruptive. Your cooperation during construction is requested and will help expedite the completion of the project.
